The Waiting

In the Christian liturgical calendar, we recently finished advent season - the time of year where we wait on the the birth of the Savior. We have moved into epiphany, which signifies several different events in the life of the Church.

We waited - so why are we still waiting?

I had a session this week with one of my executive coaching clients and “waiting” was the theme of the conversation. Perhaps, I observed, the spiritual season of Advent, of waiting, wasn’t just to prepare our hearts for the birth, but to prepare our lives to weather even more waiting.

I am reminded that much of my work is to prompt people to NOT wait. Act. Move. Get enough information to move and then GO. What are you waiting on?

But sometimes we have only to wait. The season in which we act isn’t here yet. Some things we simply cannot hurry. The birth needs to wait for the gestation to finish.

The question then moved from “why are we waiting?” to “what can we do while we wait?”

Expanding the metaphor - we paint the nursery. we build the crib. we read all the books.

Here are the questions to ask:

  • Is this something that I can do today?

  • If not, what can I do to prepare for it’s arrival?

  • What do I want the world to look like when it is time?

If you need help with these three questions, that is where a neutral set of ears comes in. Don’t think that these questions have to be answered alone. Find the right person and get going. Don’t let the need to wait keep you from acting.

The Speakers Collaborative Upcoming Cohorts

We are currently filling our cohorts for The Speakers Collaborative in North Carolina. We begin our sessions in February and go live on stage in early April. We continue to fill our Veterans cohort, which will go live later this year. Our need for this cohort are sponsors to underwrite the program fees for the speakers.

Check out our Speaker Package here.

If you have been waiting for your chance (see above!) it is now.

Announcing Integrated Advocacy Partners

This week, I announced a joint venture between Capitol Resources of North Carolina, Kohn Associates and Walk-Up Advocacy. Traditional lobbying is broken and as an experienced lobbying, I see every day just how broken it is. The 1950s model of lobbying simply doesn’t work in 2025. Our clients are driving a new model, a model where their teams are more informed and engaged than ever, elected officials receive their information from many sources, not just the lobbyist.

Our new model creates one-source option for companies who are tired of paying a monthly fee for a lobbyist to grease palms. We start by raising up internal advocates, developing and refining your existing assets while also coordinating with the external lobbying team and letting our voices be heard in the public arena.

We launched Integrated Advocacy Partners because the old way is broken. Spend your public affairs dollars better, spend them with us.
