The Media Plan - Get One!
Crisis Proof Your Life - Volume 3
The Media Plan
The following is part of a six-part series designed to give you the tools you need to protect your life and assets while running a business (and hopefully living an epic life!)
The media - everyone complains about them, but we all rely on them. In the case of your business, when I say “Media” I mean:
Classic press (TV news, radio, newspaper…)
Social media (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook…)
Print (mail, posters, banners, picket signs…)
In other words: any vehicle that can be spread to the public.
Every business, including you solos out there, needs a media plan. You need to know what vehicles you are communicating on, how to keep your message consistent, and how to be available for those calls.
The Social Media Policy
Your team can be your best advertisers. Why spend millions on advertising when you can deploy your staff across social media platforms? Don’t just go off and start posting, though. Make sure everyone in the organization knows:
Your social media strategy (what you want to say and how)
Your no-go policy (we never post on _____, and we do not engage with those who say _____) Remember - the screenshot will be what you type, not what was typed against you.
The consequences of “going rogue”
A great media plan should include an ad budget, but with a properly defined and deployed social media plan, a small business can get by with a smaller ad spend.
Remember - a crisis avoided is much better than a crisis recovered. Do not set yourself up for pain by leaving a media plan out of your strategy.
A Date at Epcot
Last weekend we had the chance to visit with our legislative delegation at the American Legislative Exchange Council in Orlando. Being the Disney World fans that we are, we booked an extra day to hop over to the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival.
The festival runs until early November and features small plates from various countries around the world. A classic favorite for is is the Beer Cheese Soup in Canada. The newer favorite this year is the Schinkennudeln: Pasta Gratin with Ham, Onions, and Cheese over in Germany.
It has become an annual tradition for us to find a weekend to sneak away together and enjoy a trip around the world for the food and wine festival. hit me up when you are ready to explore.
