The Gospel of Peter

Earlier my career I was working for the North Carolina State Senate and this towering man took the dais in the Senate Chamber to offer the opening blessing.

Peter Milner was the new chaplain appointed by my leader to serve the spiritual needs of the North Carolina State Senate.

For the next several years, Peter and I developed a friendship that had fits and starts - coming in and out of each others lives as time went on.

Flash forward to today: Peter is still nine feet tall in my book (anyone taller than me qualifies—and many, many people are). He has survived major cancer, entered the real estate profession, continued to minister to others, and, most recently, become one of my small-business start-up clients.

What makes Peter remarkable is his story. During his cancer journey, he tried every imaginable remedy to ease both his symptoms and the effects of treatment. Nothing worked - until he discovered Epsom salts. Soaking in a bathtub of salts was his only relief.

Magnesium Sulfate is the key in the relief. It has long been used by athletes and eastern medicine practitioners to relieve muscle aches and pains, and to draw out the impurities from the body (this is where Peter landed).

He found that the source of the salts was just as important as the act of soaking, and he sourced his salts from the mountains of North Carolina.

The daily soaks were life changing for Peter, so much so that he started a company.

Refugio Collective was born out of a desire to provide refuge and healing to those who need rest. They continue to source their salts from the mountains of North Carolina, guaranteeing their purity and healing powers.

My wife, who enjoys a soak several times a week, swears by them. In fact, when she runs out of Refugio salts, she has to resort to, as she calls them, the “trash salts” and yells from the bathtub that I need to call Peter for more.
