You are Worthy of Your Dreams

...and you should protect them!

You are Worthy of Your Dreams!

Last week something amazing happened. My dream of producing and hosting a public speaking forum to give speakers a stage and the community quality time together was realized.

It took months of planning, weekly check-ins with the team, a financial risk, and playing through the doubt.

But it worked. Now I am looking to take The Speakers Collaborative on the road (more on that later.) But first…back to practicing law and crisis-proofing your business.

You are worthy of your dreams, but those dreams aren’t worthy of you if you aren’t willing to take a risk to achieve them. And if you are on the path to achieving them, make sure you protect them.

I had a dream and this is what I did to protect it.

  1. I trademarked the name. The process to trademark is not easy, but it is important. My application is still pending because they are so backed up, but the protection started when I applied, not when it is approved.

  2. I bought the domain name https://thespeakerscollaborative.com/ The site is under construction, but I own it.

  3. I organized it under Cody Hand, LLC - protecting my family’s assets should something have gone wrong.

  4. I had the speakers sign releases and contracts, giving both of us protection and ownership over our content.

  5. The audience members were informed that their entry and participation in the event was consent to be recorded and published. It was done with a lobby notice.

  6. I had a crisis plan in my back pocket should someone have shown up that intended to disrupt or something happened during the event.

  7. I documented every step to replicate the product.

You SHOULD chase your dreams. You should take risks. You should call me to protect the dream you are chasing and/or the risk you are taking.
